Why one system
Zerno exists because of a pattern we kept watching companies repeat — and a belief that it doesn’t have to be this way.
The pattern
A company starts small: a spreadsheet, an inbox, maybe an invoicing app. It works — everything fits in two heads. Then it grows. Marketing gets a tool. Sales gets a CRM. The warehouse gets its own system, finance gets another, and somebody buys a dashboard product to make sense of the rest.
By fifty people, the company runs on eleven subscriptions taped together with exports, zaps and one heroic operations manager. Every tool holds its own copy of the customer. Every meeting starts with reconciling numbers. Growth made the company harder to see — precisely when seeing it clearly started to matter most.
The standard answer is “buy an ERP and hire consultants.” Eighteen months later there’s a system nobody likes and a stack of tools that quietly survived the migration. We think that answer is wrong for companies of this size — and that the right one hadn’t been built yet.
The belief
The founding idea of Zerno is small enough to fit in a sentence: a company should run on one record of truth. One customer record. One order ledger. One timeline. Marketing, sales, operations, finance and analytics as views of the same living data — not islands with ferries between them.
We named it Zerno — the Slavic word for grain — because that’s the design: a single seed of data, and everything growing from it. It’s also a quiet pun we refuse to apologise for: one grain of truth.
The principles
One record of truth
Every fact lives in exactly one place. If two screens ever disagree, that’s a bug in Zerno — not a reconciliation task for you.
Modules, not silos
Capabilities ship as modules on the shared core. Turning one on never spawns a copy of your data or an integration to babysit.
Boring reliability
The exciting part is your company, not your software. We optimise for the system that just works on a Tuesday afternoon in November.
Your data is yours
Full export at any time, deletion on request, no hostage mechanics. We’d rather keep you with product than with lock-in.
Where we are
Zerno is in private beta. We onboard founding teams in small batches, migrate their data with them, and build the roadmap around what real companies run into — in that order. If that sounds like your kind of company, raise your hand.
